All Is Well Campaign: Help Me To Read Program

All Is Well Campaign: Help Me To Read Program is the literacy initiative of the Children’s Literacy Ministry of Christian Literacy Associates, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Christian Literacy Associates’ model program is Allegheny County Literacy Council, Inc. The literacy campaign begins June 1, 2009 and ends June 1, 2014, with a goal of reaching 10,000 children in need of basic reading skills in Western PA.

Caring community sponsors who donate to the All Is Well Campaign: Help Me To Read Program will empower child advocates, from parents to community volunteers, by providing them with life-changing basic reading materials, training, and on-going literacy support. A donation of $100 will provide one child an ABC Look At Me Reading! Learning Packet. This packet includes the basic reading textbook entitled ABC Look At Me Reading! which teaches the alphabet and the forty most common English words in context in sentences. The packet also includes ABC Look At Me I’m An Author!, a lesson reinforcement activity book. A child also will receive 80 word and word picture cards to use in creating sentences, promoting creativity and word recognition.

The ABC Look At Me Reading! Learning Packet is uniquely designed to help non-professional tutors teach children the essential basics of reading. The basics of reading include: learning left to right progression, learning the alphabet, learning the forty most common English words which make up 40% of all the words you will ever see in print, learning to read in a smooth, flowing manner as one would speak, learning to develop sentences using the words one has learned, learning that one can read silenty to oneself, and learning to read for meaning.

The All Is Well Campaign: Help Me To Read Program staff will train a child advocate in the literacy techniques used in the ABC Look At Me Reading! Learning Packet for work with children, with an emphasis on those ages 3 to 8 years of age. The tutors will have on-going support during and after the campaign from the staff of Christian Literacy Associates, a non-profit ministry who has brought the Light into the darkness of illiteracy since 1975.

The All Is Well Campaign: Help Me To Read Program will also help children and youth, ages 3-16, who need assistance beyond the basic reading learning packet. The All Is Well Campaign brochure gives more information. No child will be turned away who needs basic reading assistance.

A $100 donation can potentially save taxpayers on average $10,000, depending on which school district the child attends. Giving the advocate tools to help the child master basic reading skills, saving the child from repeating a grade, and giving the child a gift that lasts a lifetime is definitely a wise investment! Today will be the day you can let your neighbors know that All Is Well. A single parent will breathe a sigh of relief. A teenage reading reinforcer will gain value and purpose in life. A school teacher will rejoice over the community advocates for her students. A child will master basic reading skills, gain self-confidence, and grow to become a positive influence in this world.
